ABOUT US

Named after a traditional African music style, Semba is a contemporary urban espadrilles sandal and clothing label, the perfect fusion of African soul, Spanish design and handscraftship.

Semba was founded in San Sebastian in 2017 by two travel-loving friends from Spain and Angola looking for the perfect footwear that would have a powerful and strong identity for an adventurous, cosmopolitan and very chic woman of today.

Semba stands for a new urban lifestyle, the Semba Mood.

Semba means living with optimism, curiosity, and a relaxed attitude. It’s the joy of connecting with people and sharing experiences. Semba is being true to yourself and your feelings.

ARTISAN PRODUCTION

Semba is inspired by the colours and patterns of the wax fabrics, the traditional West African colourful cotton textiles.

We select all our 100% cotton wax print fabrics, “real wax” certified,  directly from African local artisans in Angola.

The production of our espadrilles is made in the Spanish ancient traditional way. Each pair is handmade in La Rioja by artisans following the craftsmanship traditions.

Each espadrilles and wax print product tells a story. The artisans pay attention to every small detail and finishing touches to make sure it’s of excellent quality.

Each Semba product is unique, embedded with a multicultural soul and identity: Inspired by Africa  and hand made in Spain.

PHILOSOPHY

We are committed to operating a responsible business. At Semba we believe in a conscious and sustainable way to create fashion.

In our global and fast moving society, we truly believe that quality matters. This is why we want to involve the consumer to thinking that quality beats quantity, the importance of knowing where the materials come from and the way the product is made are the things that count and makes it a more unique story.

We are more detail-focused and slower making sure it’s produced in an ethical and environmental way, hand picking the materials and selecting the artisans that work with us.
